Topic:  Perspectives into York Region's Bus Rapid Transit Mega-Project

Description: The challenges of designing and constructing bus rapid transit (BRT) middle of Highway 7/ Yonge Street/ Davis Drive are significant. Find out how York Region Rapid Transit Corp. (YRRTC) has succeeded in implementing rapid transit in the most congested traffic and utility corridors in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). 

Also, learn about the next wave of rapid transit investment in York Region (the Yonge Subway Extension) and the challenges of extending one of the busiest subway lines in North America. 

Speaker Bio:   
 

Guest Speaker: Charles Wheeler, Comtech’s Vice President of Transportation has over 38 years of transportation planning, design, construction, property/real estate within a variety of project delivery methodologies. Over his career Charles has been responsible for executing the  planning, design and construction phases of large, complex urban transportation infrastructure  and rapid transit projects including the Sheppard Subway, Toronto York Spadina Subway  Extension (TYSSE), Yonge Subway Extension, Union Station Second Platform Project, York Region  Rapid Transit Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Program and Ottawa Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project.  Charles led the negotiations on behalf of the City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit  Commission (TTC) for the TYSSE federal funding agreement, led the Owner’s Engineer team for  the $5.1 billion Ottawa Light Rail Transit (LRT) program using a public-private partnership (P3)  model (for both Stage 1 and Stage 2) and has led over $15 billion in rapid transit and related  infrastructure projects in both the public and private sector.

He is also experienced with a full range of project delivery and funding methods, including Design?Build, Design?Bid?Build, Design? Build?Finance, Public-Private Partnerships, Alternative Finance & Procurement as well as  Operations and Maintenance strategies
