Speaker Bio:



Don Beaton 
CIO,
Durham Region

Over 30 years’ experience in the Information Technology industry providing consulting, project management, and strategic direction working in the fields of Financials, Manufacturing, Retail and Public Sector.

Currently as the Chief Information Officer for the Region of Durham responsible for developing and directing the Information Technology Division encompassing corporate information technology strategic usage, cyber security management and control, as well as project management. As CIO is responsible for development of multi-year and annual operating business plans and budget, branch policies and procedures and identifying strategic information technology initiatives/opportunities. As CIO is responsible for communicating related information technology policies, procedures, and initiatives to Regional Council and staff; establishing benchmarks; monitoring and maintaining consistency and quality of Divisional programs and services.

Holds a Master of Public Administration from University of Western Ontario, a Bachelors of Administrative Studies from York University, and a diploma from Durham College in Business Administration/Data Processing, as well as certificates in Labour Relations, Electronic Records Management – Data Privacy, and Alternative Dispute & Conflict Resolution

PDUs:  This PMI-DHC meeting will qualify for 1.5 PDUs (1.0 Strategic and 0.5 Leadership)
