A Message from our Founder

How did it all happen?
Excerpt of a 2019 interview with Dr. W.G.M. (Bud) Lush, PMI-DHC Founder.

The Durham Highlands Chapter was founded in 1999 through the sponsorship of Dr. W.G.M. (Bud) Lush and a small group of interested Project Management practitioners in Durham Region. On February 11, 2002, we became a 'chartered' PMI® chapter.

September 2025		Chapter reaches 1,600+ members
November 20, 2024		DHC Charter Agreement with PMI updated and approved
October 2024		PMI-DHC Bylaw version 8 published.
October 7, 2024		PMP® certification turns 40!
May 2024		PMI-DHC prequalified for PMI Chapter of the Year Award nomination.
September 2023		Chapter reaches 1,400+ members.
September 2023		PMI-DHC aligns its Fiscal and Operational  budget years to Sept 1 - Aug 31.
June 2023		PMI-DHC prequalified for PMI Chapter of the Year Award nomination.
May 2023		Membership approves the revised v7 of PMI-DHC Bylaws.
February 2023		Chapter reaches 1,300+ members.
September 2022		Chapter reaches 1,100+ members.
September 2022		PMI Durham Highlands Chapter is one of the 2022 Chapter of the Year Award finalists. 1 of 7 finalists in Category II - 301 to 1,500 members category.
June 2022		Mireille Landry becomes chapter President.
June 2022		PMI-DHC nominated for PMI Chapter of the Year Awards and submits application.
February 11, 2022		PMI-DHC celebrates 20 years as a chartered PMI® chapter with 1,002 Members (virtually due to COVID-19).
November 2021		PMI notifies PMI-DHC it is among the top for membership sustainability through COVID-19 out of over 300 chapters around the world.
February 8, 2021		DHC Charter Agreement with PMI updated and approved
May 2020		PMI-DHC runs its first Zoom virtual event with presenter David Barrett.
March 2020		PMI-DHC shuts in-person events due to COVID-19.
September 2020		Ranjini Cassup becomes chapter President.
October 2019		PMI Reimagines itself. Welcome to the Project Economy! New PMI Brand.
October 2019		PMI turns 50+ - 50th Anniversary Celebrations at PMI LIM 2019.
September 2019		Chapter reaches 1,000+ members.
June 2019		New Bylaw passed - version 6.
January 2019		Dennis Abuan becomes chapter President.
September 2018		Joe Campa becomes chapter President.
June 2018		Chapter reaches 800+ members.
July 2017		Chapter reaches 750 members.
June 2017		Chapter Celebrates 15yr Anniversary at Ajax Convention Centre.
June 2016		Madeleine Sanders becomes chapter President.
June 2016		Chapter reaches 600 members.
March 2015		Ranjini Cassup becomes chapter President.
June 2013		Cheri Essner becomes chapter President.
June 2013		Chapter approves new bylaws.
February 29, 2012		Chapter celebrates its 10th anniversary with over 550 members.
December 4, 2011		DHC Charter Agreement with PMI updated and approved
September 25, 2011		Susan Carroll-Clark becomes chapter President.
March 2008		Chapter reaches 500 members.
October 11, 2007		Sylvie Edwards becomes chapter President.
February 20, 2007		Chapter celebrates its 5th anniversary with approximately 460 members.
November 6, 2004		Chapter introduces first PMP OverDrive - PMP preparation class.
June 15, 2004		Gay Skinner becomes chapter President.
February 11, 2002		PMI Durham Highlands completes their charter requirements and becomes a 'chartered' PMI Chapter.
November 22, 2001		PMI Durham Highlands Chapter completes the Ontario Incorporation requirements.
June 12, 2001		Initial chapter director elections held. Bob Broadbent elected as President of the chapter and at that time had approximately 75 members.
June 21, 1999		Chapter Kick-off Event at Durham College Whitby Campus.
May 24, 1999		Statement of Intent letter submitted to PMI.
April 29, 1999		Initial Chapter organizing meeting held with the coordination of Dr. W.G.M. (Bud) Lush and a small group of interested Project Management practitioners in Durham Region.
